I’m extremely excited to announce that I’ve partnered with the Sony & Dew team (yay!) to talk about my favorites from their line of all-natural, homemade skincare products! I was invited to Tresses & Colours Salon in East Islip, New York to try out some products and learn more about the company.
I met with Louise Polite, the founder of Sonny & Dew, and owner of Tresses & Colours Salon. She makes all products by hand at home. If you couldn’t already tell, it’s a lot of hard work! So inspiring!!
Sonny & Dew started in 2014 and is named after her Father-In-Law “Sonny”, and Mother-In-Law “Dew”. The company even won Best of Long Island in both 2017 and 2018! They firmly stand behind the idea of using all-natural, non-chemical ingredients across the entire product line. Louise even told me I could “eat any of her products if I so chose to…but it probably wouldn’t taste great.” Haha!
I picked her brain about mass-market drugstore & beauty supply brands compared to all-natural products. This was such a learning experience because I myself shop all the major skincare/makeup brands, and never thought to question what I actually was putting on my skin. Yikes! I went home that night and realized the majority of products I use on a day-to-day basis have a long list of ingredients I can barely even pronounce. In comparison, all Sonny & Dew products have a short list of ingredients that are familiar and safe!
I’ll be honest, I’m not telling you guys to go all-natural with your entire beauty routine. I myself have searched long and hard to find my favorite products that I just can’t live without…I totally get that. I wanted to share what I learned, and talk about this amazing brand! I chose a few products to take home and try out…and when I say OBSESSED, I mean it.
I’ve pulled together a list of my favorite five products from the line; and no — the team did not ask me to do this. It’s real and honest feedback because I truly have been using these regularly. The below list is not in any specific order. I couldn’t possibly choose my absolute #1 favorite because they each do something different for me.
1. Cranberry Lip Scrub:
Where it all started. You guys probably saw my Instagram post a little while ago where I was raving about this product. If you haven’t seen it, you can find it here. I love love love this scrub! My lips have been dry and cracked this entire winter, and anyone who wears lipstick everyday knows how annoying it can be. Talk about re-applying often…!? I’ve been using this every-other night after I take my makeup off, and in the morning my lips are soft, hydrated and ready for makeup! No other product has worked this well for me!! Yay! Shop this product here, or at the salon! I will provide their address at the end of this post.
2. Charcoal Rub Scrub:
I was immediately drawn to this when I visited the salon. Charcoal is a huge beauty trend right now and I didn’t realize how effective natural charcoal can help with oily/problematic skin. Warning: It has severe drying effects and if used on normal or dry skin, it will dry you out even more! Be careful! This scrub is made with actual charcoal (a decent amount of it too). *Fun fact: a lot of big-name skincare brands claim to use real charcoal in their products, but in many cases only 10% (if that) of the formula is actually natural charcoal. Shop this product here.
3. Perk Me Up Sugar Scrub:
OH MY GOD COFFEE!! This product is perfect for all my fellow caffiene addicts out there! This literally smells like a fresh pot of coffee and is suitable for all skin-types. It’s safe to use on both the face and body…talk about a pick-me-up in the morning! Along with its incredible scent, it exfoliates the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce puffiness! I only have good things to say about this so I’ll stop here and let you see for yourself. Shop this product here.
4. Shea & Coconut Body Butter:
Ok so I’m definitely not a huge fan of scented lotions because I don’t like mixing it with my everyday perfume. I also don’t like the way most body lotions and creams leave your hands and skin greasy. Have you ever touched your phone screen after applying hand lotion? Ew. I hate those streaks! But maybe I’m just being OCD, I don’t know…This body butter has a light scent which doesn’t overpower my perfume, and it absorbs directly into the skin, so guess what? NO GREASY RESIDUE! Love that! I’ve been using this on my body after I shower every night, and in the morning my skin still feels silky smooth. Keep in mind the formula is full of shea butter, aloe vera and vitamin E, so a little bit really goes a long way. Oh and by the way, they have like twenty different scents to choose from! Just search the word “body butter” on their site to see the options. I’ll link mine here.
5. Shea & Coconut Bar Soap:
I’m currently using this bar soap along with the body butter. It’s a perfect match! I love the scent. It’s light, but sweet. My skin feels super soft from all the nutrients, vitamins and anti-oxidants! Shop this product here.
I hope you all enjoyed reading about this awesome company and their products! As always, I’m 100% transparent when it comes to products I talk about on the blog. I would never agree to write a post on something I didn’t love and use myself. If you are in the Long Island area, stop by the salon (address below) to see for yourself how great the products are!
